Tax Season is Extended!

Yesterday the IRS announced, “the FEDERAL INCOME TAX FILING due date for individuals for the 2020 tax year will be automatically extended from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021.”

Along with the filing due date being extended, the FEDERAL income tax payment due date is extended too!

Here is the announcement from the IRS.

Keep in mind that this ruling by the IRS DOES NOT necessarily postpone state tax payment or filing deadlines.  Here is a link to find out what the states are doing in response to the Federal action.  I would suspect that most states, if not all, will follow suit.

If you have questions about how this announcement affects you, let me know.  These sorts of changes, much like the 2020 tax law change passed last week, are what make tax preparation such an exciting field to be in!
